Legal Question in Employment Law in District of Columbia

Is it legal for me to join this new company?

I have not done it yet. I just want to make sure it is legal to do so first. Here is my case:

I am a vendor consultant. I recently found from online that one of our big client is hiring. I have not been working for this client. But a few of my co-workers are currently working on that project. And they are my friends.

After I found this position is opening, I called my friend for inside information, I found that it was because my friend them suggest them to hire a experienced person for that position.

This is a Public Trust position and has a risk level designation of moderate. I currently has my company's stock purchase plan. So I have some company stocks.

So here are my questions:

1. Can I apply and accept the job offer if there is one?

2. Do I have to sell all my company stocks at a lose before I accept this job?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Assuming that you're not barred by a valid non-compete agreement, I don't see a problem and am not even sure why you're asking these questions.
