Legal Question in Personal Injury in District of Columbia

What are bouncers limited to doing?

My boyfriend was drunk after the club. We were waiting for our car from valet, and my boyfriend was already mad about a drunk guy pushing us as we waited. When the valet guy came, my boyfriend asked, ''Is my car good?'' and the guy replied. ''I don't know.'' My boyfriend grabbed him and said, ''What do you mean you don't know? You drove it.'' I tell the valet guy to not mind my boyfriend because he was drunk, and next thing you know the guy throws the receipt in my boyfriend's face. That made my boyfriend mad so he pushed him. All of the sudden all these big bouncers come and my boyfriend says he just wanted to know if his car was good and the guy decided to throw the receipt to his face. The valet guy is says he deserved it for acting like a jerk. So they all yell back and forth, and my boyfriend finally gets in the car. However, he rolls his window down and still talks trash, and all the sudden the smallest bouncer walks to the window and slaps his face, another bouncer pulls him out the window, and another kicks him in the face. That's when i slid in and yelled, ''Back up, he is drunk! You're not! Why you going to hit him when he's already in the car?!'' Can the bouncers really do that? We were already ready to go.

Re: What are bouncers limited to doing?

No, if those facts were proven the bouncers and their employer would have a problem. As a practical matter though, there may be issues of proof that are difficult. Specifically, the bouncers may not be truthful and they may tell a different version; if a judge / jury believes their version (i.e. they were attached, etc.) then they will win.
