leaving the scene

i was in an accident i was at fault and did little damages i thought was aprx 400$ with a home the home owner and agroup of 14 other people came running out of home and started beating on my truck one with a trap i use for animals wife and i were real scared we shut off vehicle like we were told to do they demanded we get out we refused and the beat my truck up started the engine and left this accident happened 6 houses away from mine we know the people we are their neighbors my truck has my name and phone # plastered all over it i called my insurance co reported it to them thinkin not to get the police involved for ticket reasons next day went to home and gave the man the claim # and everything still very agressive we left now im being charged with leaving the scene of the accident i think i did the right thing in leaving but still being charged what can i do
