Whether you are required to pay child support and whether you can re-establish your parental rights depends on the nature and terms of your relinquishing parental rights. For example, if you give up your parental rights to a government agency because of neglect or abandonment, you may be able in the future to regain parental rights if you can demonstrate that you are a responsible parent. However, if you give up parental rights resulting in the adoption of your child by another person or persons, you lose all rights to re-establish yourself as a parent. You aren't required to pay child support but you lose all future rights to the child. Advice: consult a family law attorney to be advised of legal rights and options based on your circumstances.
