Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

First Paycheck

Two weeks ago I began working for a State University and when I started work I was told that after three weeks of work I would receive my first paycheck. This is understandable because they work on a biweekly pay period. Now I am being told that I will not receive my first paycheck until the end of my fifth week of employment and then I will receive both my first and second checks together as one. This change is apparently due to the simple fact that the HR person in charge of new hires for my department did not get the paperwork done on time. There are also two other new employees that are having the same problem and who began work on the same date. I am also being told that this happens almost ever time someone new gets hired and this problem has apparently never been addressed properly. I am just trying to find out if there is any limitation on when a first paycheck must be received by.

Re: First Paycheck

Florida law does not contain a provision of when an employer must provide a paycheck for an employee. This is a time deadline for independent contractors under certain conditions.
