Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

rental property

we had a tenant that lease was up in december of last year, and stayed until the middle of april. they paid through march and expected their deposit to pay for april. we let them stay and now they want $600. of their $1200 deposit back because they did (their figures) improvements on the property, which we never asked for they wanted it for their convenience(finish a fence for their dog, new blinds,we had blinds but they wanted new ones, and they left them there. we never them for any of these) now they sent a letter stating by law if we didn't make a claim in 15 days we have no right to keep part of there deposit . they left a significant amount of damage that we have to fix before we can rent it again and they say we would havew to pay all court costs as well. are they correct? thank you.
