Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

My son and his friend were sharing the rent for an apartment in Florida in order to attend a college.

The friend left for the semester, and my son and I have the responsibility to pay the entire rent. Howerver, the friend's mother is the lease signer. Is it right and legal for my son to have to pay the entire rent? Who is responsible for the rent?

The LL is entitled to be paid. You may have a claim for contribution.

What was your agreement? If your son stops paying rent, he will probably be evicted,so don't do that. If the friend's mom is on the lease, she is responsible for her share (or her son's). Contact her to try to get her to contribute her share of the payment to you. You may file suit against her if she is unwilling to do so.

The people that signed the lease are. I assume there was an agreement that the two would share the expense. Son should try to find a new roommate. Contact mom and get her to pay her half until roommate is located.
