Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce

how long does it take to get a divorce in ga. i am now at the point where we have medation.

she has put every meeting off by not showing. she did not show for medatio. We have been seperated for more than a year. I was served papers in March 06. Is there no limit. I thought most states you could have your divorce completed in one year or less. she is doing everything she can to drag this out......but for how long?

I live in SC now and she is still in ga. I get the children (3)every other week. I cannot seem to get anywhere..so how long can this go on? Please help me.

Re: divorce

Your attorney should have discussed this with you (and it is vital in every divorce, especially those with children that you have counsel throughout the case). While uncontested cases can be done in 31 days, even the fastest contested cases take a number of months, and some do take years. (That is true in other states as well). If your wife has been missing court dates and other appearances discuss with your attorney motions for sanctions or default.

Re: divorce

Your question does not indicate whether you are represented by an attorney. If you are, then that individual is the person that your questions should be addressed to. If you do not have representation, you should hire an attorney to represent your interests in a fair settlement and timely proceeding without delay.
