car repo

my friend was off work for 3 months and was behind on his payments he called the finance co. when he got his paychecks again and asked what he owed to come up to date. he payed what he was told and then continued to make his regular payments. its been a year and his car was just repoed. he was told that he didnt pay all that was owed last year and now owes $4000 in late fees and payments. no notice have been sent and no phone calls were received. what can he do if anything? and if he just lets them keep the car what would he owe?

Re: car repo

There are laws that must be followed to be able to repossess someone's vehicle. If no notice of late payments was owed and your friend has been up to date ever since, then he should contact the finance company. If that does not get him anywhere, then he should hire an attorney or try to get help from a consumer protection agency. The problem is that it becomes more and more expensive to recover his car once it has been repossessed (storage fees) and if he does not move quickly, the car could be sold at auction.

Please feel free to have your friend contact us if he wants to talk about his case.
