Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Adult Guardian Responsibilities

Las year my mother was assigned guardian of the person and estate over my 89 year old grandmother. I recently applied for guardianship because I discovered my mom was not paying grandma's bills and using the money for herself. Approximately 90% of my grandmother's life savings are gone and no one is here to care for her properly since I reside in another state. Are there any legal actions that can be done to my mother? How can I recover the money? What will the state do when she submits the accounting of the estate? Help!!

Re: Adult Guardian Responsibilities

Thank you for your question.

Your mother could be held in

contempt of court for misuse

of the estate funds in your

grandmother's guardianship.

If the court ordered that your

mother be bonded, the bonding

company is contractually obligated to reimburse the

guardianship estate of your grandmother right away.
