Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I have been divorced from my ex husband 15 years. Our oldest son is graduating high school next Saturday. My ex has been an absentee dad and has chosen not to attend the graduation because he did not want to help pay for the Senior fee, amongst other things. Here is my question..... Since I know that unless a judge orders him to do so, is he obligated to help with my son's college tuition? Or am I on the hook for this on my own?

Assuming you were divorced in IL he can be ordered to contribute to the college expenses of his child< subject to certain limitations - not more than the cost of UI Champaign. A Petition for Contribution should be filed ASAP. He should be served with appropriate notice. Each of you will have to complete Financial Affidavits and provide copies of your last few years income tax returns, along with other documentation. IT is not necessarily a quick process, but it should be commenced immediately.
