Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Unmarried-pregnant relocating

I am 23 years old and 7 months pregnant. Father of the child and I are not together. I live in Illinois but would like to relocate to Virginia. Can he make it to where I have to come back legally?

In addition to the previous answer, until paternity is established, the father is going to have a hard time stopping you from doing anything, but I do agree, that moving now before the child is born will prevent you from being forced to move back.

In any event, if you didn't move before the child was born, you would need court permission to move to Virginia. It has been my experience in Illinois, that more often than not, the parent is allowed to move. But there certainly is an expense involved in going to court to get permission when you could move now and avoid that particular issue.

You would be better off moving prior to the birth of the child. After the birth you will need permission to move. If you live in VA when the child is born, he cannot make you move back.
