Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

wagering against a friend

Is it illegal to wager against a friend, in regards to sports? Ie. Can 2 friends bet on a baseball game, and legal action be taken if said ''friend'' does not pay? Thank you.

Re: wagering against a friend

Generally speaking, oral contracts are just as enforcable as written agreements. However, gambling, betting and/or wagering on sports might be illegal in your jurisdiction, in which case no court of law would uphold the agreement.

You should consult with an attorney who is familiar with the gambling laws in the area in which you and your friend made this bet.
