Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Repayment of Unemployment Insurance

Recently I received a letter telling me that I had received an overpayment of unemployment insurance.($7000)

I have appealed because I was approved and received it for the 13 weeks and then I was told it was in error and I needed to repay it. I have appealed twice and lost, the third time was to be in court. I had a family emergency and had to go out of town for a while and missed the filing date. Do I have any options or do I just give up and pay it as I can because I am not working full time.

Re: Repayment of Unemployment Insurance

There are provisions in the law for repayment at reduced amounts. Usually, the time limits are unavoidable. But you can always request a court to extend the filing time. However, I cannot see what grounds you can argue under the law.
