Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Can My Landlord Kick Me Out???

My landlord told me when I signed my lease that if I moved ANYONE in with me she would kick me out. I met a great guy who I would like to move in with me until my lease is up in June (we are going to buy a house after that). He will have no problem signing onto the lease but I am scared to even ask her if he can move in because she threatened to kick me out. Can she do this?

What does your lease say? If your lease says only you can reside there then yes, your landlord can "kick" you out. However to do so she would need to provide you with a 10 day notice and if you did not correct the problem--in your case the guy leaving the apartment--then she would have to file an eviction suit against you for possession of the apartment.
