Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

deceased parents property sold on contract for deed

Our father has been deceased for 9 years now. He has sold land on contract for deed 26 years ago. The house in IL has been abandoned. My father had no money. The city where the house stands is trying to make us pay for the tearing down of the home. After 26 years are his siblings responsible. Or the abandoner?

Re: deceased parents property sold on contract for deed

Assuming that the deed was never issued, and filed in the chain of title, it would appear that you father may be liable. Good Luck!
