Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Liability

I moved out of my apartment. There was snow on the ground. The entrance to my apt building has a ceramic glazed tile floor. I hired movers. One of the movers slipped on the slick floor and the furniture he was carrying hit the glass at the top of the entrance door. It broke 4- 4X4 inch panes of leaded glass. The landlord says I have to pay. I say it is between the landlord and the moving company. I think it is the landlord's responsibility because the floor is hazardous and there was no mat or caution signs. (I did caution the movers) Who is liable for the damage?

Re: Liability

Ultimately, the movers that you hired are your agents and servants. That makes you liable. However, if the movers had an insurance policy, a claim should be made on that policy.
