Responsibility for decesed person debts

My father had passed away leaving a huge amount of debts and little property. Is my mother or my brother and me responsible to pay off his debts?

Yes,but only to the extent you and your other family members have inherited the assets from your father and not more than that.If you have not inherited anything then you can not be held liable to repay the debt.
