Deceased Spouse's Medical Bills

My husband recently passed away after 2 weeks in the hospital. He did not have any health insurance. Am I responsible for his medial bills even though I did not sign anything at the hospital?

Re: Deceased Spouse's Medical Bills

You could be under what is called the Doctrine of Necessities. That will depend on who had the greater income - you or your spouse.

You do not mention whether an estate has been opened or not. If one has been opened, it could take care of the debts.

Talk to a local attorney to check out your options.
