Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

My mom is 85 and now in a nursing home. She was in rehab from March till June but is now in the nursing home facility, no longer just for rehab. She has a credit card balance 0f $14,600. She paid her credit card bill for March, April and May from her checking account. The nursing home now gets all her pension and ss check so she could not make the June payment. She owns no property nor does she have any money from other sources. How does she proceed to let the credit card co. know that she cannot make any more payments?

She, or someone on her behalf, should write to the credit card company, by certified mail, to inform them of the situation.
