Backdating Documents

My employer, as part of a termination of my employment has asked me to backdate a document 30 days, reflecting that I was notified of poor performance. Surely this is not legal, but is there reference or precedent?

I guess the legality might depend on why your employer wants you to back date the document and with whom your employer plans to share the document. I also wonder what incentive your employer is offering you to go along with its request.
