Re: When will my teenager be a legal adult

This is confusing to everyone. In Louisiana a person stops being a juvenile on their 17th birthday. Any state crimes are charged as an adult and any consensual sexual activity with another adult is mutually legal.

On the other hand, (s)he cannot vote or buy tobacco products. (S)he is subject to child labor laws, cannot marry without parental consent, and if the 17 year old causes injury the parents are liable for damages. Under Federal criminal law a person is not an adult until 18.
