Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

15 & 17 yr old want to leave parents and move to GA

I have two boys, ages 15 and 17, that I refer to as my foster kids. I knew their family as they were growing up, and the boys spent as much time at my house as their own. 2 yrs ago, the family moved the boys to Maryland.

Today, the boys called and are extremely unhappy, and wanting to move in with my family, here in GA. I have never thought the boys' family life was healthy and would love to bring them here. What, if anything, can I do to help them?

Parental rights issues are very complicated and you would do well to seek out assitance from an attorney who handles juvenile matters.

This is too complicated to answer in this type of forum. More facts are needed. You should consult with a local attorney. If you are in my area, please feel free to call. I don't charge for phone consultations.

Without the consent of the parents, it's unlikely that a court (which would be in MD) would take custody away from them. There would have to be a clear showing of abuse, not just "unhappiness" on the part of the boys. Of course, the older one will be an adult at 18 and can go where he wants at that point.
