Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Repayment question

My wife and I were relocated to another state, and we dealt with a relocation company for the move. After six months at our new location, the relocation company mailed a check in my name, to my address. Six months later, they contacted me to say that they made a mistake and meant to send the money to another person. My wife and I legitimately felt we were entitled to the money when we cashed the check. Are we legally responsible to pay the money back? If so, can I dictate the repayment terms?

Re: Repayment question

The company is entitled to recover its money if it was mistakenly paid to you. However, you should dialogue with them to find out why you aren't entitled to your own payment, if that's the case. Presumably your new employer engaged the relo company, so seek input from them. As for the repayment terms, you can try and negotiate a repayment plan, and they will probably work with you in the interest of resolving the matter.
