Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I am pregnant and single. My boyfriend wants our baby to have his last name and I want to use mine. we live in MA and do not plan to marry at this time. Can we hyphenate and use both of our names on the birth certificate?

Thank you.

You can use either last name or you can hyphenate and use both of your names to create a new last name. The only limitation on this is that you can't create a name to commit fraud. If you are using a hyphenation of the two parents' names then it is not to commit fraud.
