Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Misdemeanor and Felony = Doing Time? :(

Two Issues:

1) Arrested in August 2005 for felonious assault. Charges dropped to Misdemeanor Assault.

2) July 2006: Pulled over during routine traffic stop. Officer informed me that warrant was issued in Jan. 2006 for assault charge.

During the traffic stop, police searched vehicle and found backpack with a stolen laptop computer. Laptop was taken from an empty classroom of the university I attend. Cooperated, polite with police- did not lie. Computer was returned in perfect condition. Trespassing notice issued for school property- can not return to class until resolved.

Charged with Larceny in a building (Felony), and possession of stolen property greater than $1000.00 and less than $20,000.00

Posted bond for both. Both cases are in seperate counties.

FOCUS: I have no criminal record save these two charges. 25 year old University student. don't use drugs, alcohol, have never hurt anyone. I am employed, and am independent. What will the outcome of this be for me? I am praying and hoping for probation, fines, and community service. I can not do time, and need to return to complete my degree.

I didn't see any questions, just statements that you can't do time, etc. However, if you're telling me that you want to hire an attorney, and if you can afford to do that, I'd be pleased to speak with you. I anticipate being able to get you a good result in your case but it would be important to get an early start on it. Feel free to call me at 18005766035.

I would worry less about "doing time" and concern myself more with the resulting two convictions on your record which wll severely impact your chances for gainful employment upon graduation.

Two convictions cannot ever be expunged and they will dog you for life.

This do-it-yourself project you have undertaken is heading for disaster. Wake up! Get a lawyer before it gets worse.
