Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Post-divorce legal issue regarding lease vehicle

Hello,

My ex-spouse was awarded a vehicle in our divorce over 2 yrs ago. The contract was in both of our names and per the decree, I paid one half of the payment and insurance on the vehicle until the end of the contract (Sept 2006). The vehicle was turned in and now GMAC is collecting $2400 for excess mileage and damages to the vehicle which my ex is not paying and GMAC is trying to collect from me. I would like to know if I need to hire an attorney to fight this charge since the car was awarded to her and I did not have access to it per a court order. Since the divorce, she has shown her financial irresponsibility by having two properties go into foreclosure and now with this issue. Any advise regarding this issue will be helpful.

Thanks,

Tim

It sounds as though there are multiple issues that should be addressed by an attorney. I suspect that your judge would clear up this situation pretty quickly.
