Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

lease agreements

Am I still legally bound to my rental lease if my landlord puts the house up for sale? I would like to move out before the realtor starts showing the house. My landlord says that I have to stay in the house until my lease is up or until the house is sold, whichever comes first. Is this true?

Re: lease agreements

Unless your lease specifically lets you out in the event the house is sold, you are bound by the lease. How long do you have left on the lease? If you do decide to break your lease, the landlord has a duty to mitigate the damages (rerent the house to avoid the loss in rent revenue). For more info, please contact my office (248)851-3171.
