Removal of website for nonpayment of services

I designed a site for a gentlemen, who in turn did not pay for my services. I removed his site from the web after numerous attempts to collect. Do I have the legal right to remove the site? What legal actions can he take against me, if any?

Re: Removal of website for nonpayment of services

Of course you have a written contract giving you the right to take down the website upon non-payment after reasonable notice, right?

If not you are subject to a lawsuit for damages including consequential and economic damages due to the site's inoperability. [This would include lost profits, sales, etc.)

This is what lawyer's do: provide client's protection from liability issues such as these. If you do NOT have such a contract, you are on thin ice.
