Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I have a bank account in my name, my name only. I am pregnant and do not work but my husband works and his check is direct deposited into the account with my name on it. Do I have any legal rights to the money? He is trying to keep me from touching the money b/c he says its not mine and he doesnt even want me to look at the statements. Is that legal? Do I have any rights to any of the money?

I am truly sorry to hear this. You have a huge problem, your husband is hostile toward you, you can not see where the family income is going (it is JOINT income, it is to be used for joint, family purposes, like buying food and paying rent), and you are carrying this man's baby.

Yes, you have rights to his income: you and he are married, and about to have a baby. You are entitled to spousal support, and equitable distribution. I can explain all of this to you.

I have no idea whether you are headed toward divorce, but this is clearly not good. I would be willing to speak with you for half an hour for free, and try to give you some guidance. Let me know if you would like to do that.

Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and let's get moving on this for you.

Please keep in mind that my response is just a general comment on your question, and not legal advice. Your question and any response does NOT create an attorney-client relationship between you and this law firm. The exact details of your situation and things that you have not mentioned in your question can completely change the answer to your question. You can not rely upon what I have written, because I do not have all of the formation that I need to advise you, I only have the very small amount of information that you put into your question. For me to give you any legal advice, I would need for you to hire me to be your lawyer, and then we would need to discuss this in detail and go over the documents.

To get legal advice that you can rely on and use, please contact me directly. I would be happy to assist you.
