Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

child support collection

My ex has failed to pay child support for the past 10 months. In addition, he now owes me approxiamtely $4000 in medical bills - his half of ''medical expenses not covered by insurance'', that I have slowly been paying off over the last year(Our divorce aggrement stated that he was responsible for having health insurance for our daughter. Last august he lost his job but failed to tell me until late novmeber. All medical visits during that time were not covered).

i also put my daughter on my insurance and now pay $60/month to have coverage-something he was supposed to do.

i do not know if he has gotten a job, but do believe that does not relieve him of this responsibility.

what are steps i can take o recoup this money, make him pay child support, and not have it cost me ''an arm and a leg''? thanks for your help!

Re: child support collection

You would need to file a Motion to get a Court to Order him to do what he is required to do. You can try to do this yourself, if you feel you are able to do so, or you can hire a lawyer to do it for you. Even though this would be more costly, it would likely be more effective since good family-law lawyers know how to do this and most individuals do not. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, you may want to contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. If you call me, [856-546-8010] mention Law Guru and your first one hour consultation will be free. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
