Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Extention of 35 day peroid to 60? Average Cost ?

I need a Lawyer to extend the 35 day peroid I have to repond to 60 days because I have been living/residing out-of-state for the past 3 months.

I'd like to know how much a lawyer would charge to contact my wife's lawyer for another 30 days extension -in writing- to get back to them.

Thank you

I doubt you would be able to find an attorney who would simply write a letter to request an extension of time. It is the usual practice of attorneys to meet with a client, have them sign a Retainer Agreement and receive a retainer (which is a deposit to be used for services to be rendered) and then the case proceeds. If you intend to ultimately represent yourself, then it is your obligation, as your own attorney, to request appropriate extensions of time. If you are going to retain a lawyer, then the lawyer would do it for you after he/she is hired.

Keep in mind that this advice is given based on the little bit of information that you have provided in your question. My advice may change based on other information. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You cannot rely on this advice because we have not personally met and you have not retained me as an attorney. If you have not already done so, you should immediately meet with a Family Law attorney for a full consultation before you take any further steps. Good luck! Rob Gleaner

I require a retainer of $4,000.00 and I will charge you $200.00 per hour.

That type of service would not ordinarily be performed unless you had retained the attorney to represent you.

You should consult with an attorney as soon as possible and be sure to provide the attorney with a copy of the Complaint. The attorney will be able to quote you a fee after reviewing the complaint and interviewing you.

We have several attorneys here who can address your concerns. Good luck.
