Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

My grandsons moved in with me 9 months ago. They are both in college, one living at home with me, one at school coming home on weekends. Does a grandmother (widow), have the right to ask for child support from their mother? How do I go about doing that?

Children in NJ have, by case law, a claim against their parents for the cost of college expenses. The guardian (or the person who is taking responsibility) may have a separate claim for child support. This is a very fact sensitive situation and you should really only pursue this with the assistance of an attorney for best results.

Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You will only be able to rely on advice from an attorney who you have actually retained. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
