Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

My husband got a ticket for going 80 in a 65. Would it be better to get a lawyer or just go and try to get reduced by himself in front of the judge?

Always use the lawyer for this. Always. He stands to lose his license otherwise. A lawyer is much more likely to be able to make a deal to help him. If he "tries" to handle this himself and fails to get it done, he will wish he had hired the lawyer!
