Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

fugitive

my daughter was stopped for a burned out license light. When they ran her name ,NCIC came back saying she was a fugitive from Stark co Ohio. All I can find out after many local and long distance calls is that there is a felony warrant issued in her name, birthdate, and ss#.She has been incarcerated since 3-28-08 with no legal counsel. We have no connections to Ohio nor has she ever been there. What's going on? We reside in KY.She went before a judge today via video and was told she would be appointed a public defender and a new date 4-7-08 for an extradition hearing. No bond was set. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Re: fugitive

You would be well advised to retain the services of a good criminal lawyer in Stark County (Canton) Ohio. You can check the court's docket on line at

"starkcjis.org/docket/main.html".

This will provide you with information concerning the Ohio charges pending against your daughter. Even if she has never been in Stark County, there are a number of crimes (internet, telephone communications, custodial interference, etc.) with which she can be charged. A local Kentucky lawyer can help you with the extradition process, but you need to find out the facts of your daughter's case and contact a Stark County criminal defense attorney as soon as possible.

You can contact the Ohio Bar Association on the internet for a referral.

Re: fugitive

I will be happy to check the Stark County Common Pleas Court to see what your daughter is charged with. If you call or email me with her name and date of birth I should be able to get some basic information and then we can go from there.

I have been practicing in North East Ohio for 34 years. During that time I have handled almost every type of criminal case there is. From trespassing to murder. I have been an assistant County prosecutor, a public defender and in private practice for over 30 years. I have handled criminal matters in State and Federal Court. Give me a call and I will let you know what I can do for you. No charge or obligation for the call.

Good Luck
