Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Child support after the fact?

I need to know if a woman has a child and claims that the child is yours, yet does not put my name on the birth certificate, can she then go back and say this is my child and I owe XXX amount of money for that child? On the birth certificate, where it says ''father'' it is marked ''unknown''. I personally do not believe the child is mine, however, she is literally blackmailing me.

I am engaged to be married and she is determined to ruin that by accusing me of fathering a child. However there is no proof that this child is mine, besides her word. But if my fiance' finds out, I will lose my family! I need to know what this lady can do & what she can't, so I know how to respond to her threats. If it turns out to be my child I will fulfill all financial duties, if not I would like your help to know if I can move on in life!

Thank you

P.S. The little guy thanks you for providing this service.....It is much appreciated!

Re: Child support after the fact?

You need to get a paternity test done, and you need to get an order from juvenile court to do this. You need to file an action under ORC 3111, and ask for a reasonable visitation schedule in the interim. She can say what she likes, but DNA will ultimately tell the tale.
