i have joint custody. Can i get sole custody of my children?

You can go back to the domestic relations or juvenile court that handled the initial case (divorce, etc.) and file a post-decree motion and in that motion ask for sole custody. But there is going to have to be some strong issues that indicate why your ex-spouse should not have any shared custody.
