Legal Question in Business Law in Oklahoma

Starting an outreach ministry

If I incorporate as a Non-profit Ministry, am I required to be tax-exempt as well?

Also, can a sole proprietor of an LLC have volunteers work for the company like a non-profit organization?

Re: Starting an outreach ministry

You're not "required" to be non-profit (ie, filing under section 501C), but if you are a Ministry you may be able to be tax-exempt, which is generally an advantage if you meet the requirements.

As for volunteers working at a single-member LLC, I can think of no inherent restrictions.

Lastly, please understand there are many possible facts of your situaiton that could change, or dictate what you can and can't do. If you're unsure I would suggest you get an attorney to understand all the facts and help you organize properly so you don't run afoul of, for example, the Okla Tax Commission or the IRS.
