Legal Question in Education Law in Pennsylvania

student transcripts

My son was a student at a private high school. I lost my job and I now owe them past due tuition. He will be unable to graduate from any other school unless I come up with all of the money by the end of the school year. I haven't found work yet,so I an unable to pay it all off. Do we have any legal options?

Re: student transcripts

This is one of the pitfalls of private education, i.e. the school can hold records and diplomas, etc. for non-payment of tuition. Your best bet is to work out a payment plan with the school where you make minimum payments now and pay larger payments when you get back to work. Most schools will go for this option as the alternative is that you remove your child from the school and they don't get paid at all. Also check into grants and other assistance based on financial need. Some private schools, particularly religous based schools have funds available for such situations. Good luck.
