Broke the lease

Signed a college apartment lease and due to some enviromental issues in the immeadiate area decided to break the lease. Sent a letter to the landlord with 60 days notice. He rented the aprtment two months after our lease was to take effect. What are we responsible for?

Re: Broke the lease

Assuming you paid for the 2 months he didn't rent the apartment, you shouldn't owe the landlord anything.

If you didn't he can sue you for the 2 months rent. If he does and he wins its 2 months rent plus court costs.

Have you talked to the landlord and see what he would want as compensation?

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
