Legal Question in Traffic Law in Pennsylvania

Normal speeding ticket

In Pennsylvania what is the distance that a trooper has to pull a speeder over? He caught me at point''A'' and 2 1/2 miles down the road point ''B'' he pulled me over. Don't they have to pull you over at a reasonable distance past where you were actually caught? And, he also told me if I take it to court I will receive all the ''points'' on my driving record. I thought it was my legal right to fight back if I believe something was wrongfully done? Why is it OK to scare us out of our legal rights? -----One fed up Pennsylvanian

Re: Normal speeding ticket

Without looking at the police report, I cannot say what you are charged with. Feel free to call our offices. You should definitely retain private counsel, but under no circumstances should you be afraid to go to court. The worst you will get is the penalty on the ticket, but you might get some knocked down.

A lot depends on how you were timed. It may be a weak case and that's why the trooper is discouraging you from going to court. However, if you were doing 90 on an interstate and he clocked you with radar, it may have taken him 2 1/2 miles to catch you and he's warning you that he's giving you a break by keeping the speed down to the range where you don't get points.
