Legal Question in Family Law in Rhode Island

relocation of my minor children

I am planning to relocate to MA from RI with my two minor children of whom I have joint custody and physical placement. Their father has been made aware of the move and has no objections to his visitation obligations because the move requires only a short distance for pick-up and drop-off of the children. my question ; Am I required to seek a lawyer for relocation and continuation of child support? Or can i obtain request through direct contact of family court?

Re: relocation of my minor children

You can relocate your children from Rhode Island to Massachusetts so long as you will be able to still comply with all the Court orders of the Rhode Island Family Court relating to visitation and custody.

After the children have lived in Massachusetts for over 6 months, you can seek to have any custody and or visitation matters transferred to the MA family Courts.

I suggest that You consult with a RI family law and child custody law attorney / lawyer.
