Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

In Need

I have been divorced since 1989 I was awarded a monthly payment to be paid to me until age 65 I am now 59, the reason for this is my ex had our possessions repossessed throughout our marriage and I had nothing, he would not let me work. He sends me check occasionally and most of them bounce. He owes me over 12,000.00. He claims he does not work but lives with his new wife in a beautiful home in Santa Ynez, CA. I believe she has the money. The divorce took place in AZ. He said if I make waves, he will make it known he is broke and since I have held a job since the divorce, I will end up having to pay him. Do I have any recourse and should I let a sleeping dog lie. I am closing in on the 65 age and I feel I will never get was was court ordered. Thank you.

Re: In Need

In South Carolina you are limited in the number of years that you can go back to recover arrearage. If you wish to recover anything, you should contact your local Family Court, a local lawyer who practices in the area of family law, or Department of Social Services who should help you bring an action here against your ex in CA. Best of luck.
