Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

credit card bill

my mom has had a lowes credit card for years but only my brother ever used it and always paid the monthly bill on time. my brother has passed away earlier this year leaving a balance of about 3.000 dollars. my brother was married and he and his wife used the card often. usually to buy things they needed such as appliances and heaters in the winter.now his wife has decided not to pay any more payments leaving my mom with this balance she can not pay. the card is in my moms name but everybody else in my family allways looked at it as there card even though my mom had to go with them every time there was a purchase. what legal rights does my mom have if any. she is 80 years old and on a fixed income. please respond asap there has to be some law about personel conduct or something .

Re: credit card bill

If your Mom went to the store every time and signed the receipt, there isn't anything she can do to contest the charges. She may be able to make a claim on your brother's estate, if he did agree to pay her back for the purchases.
