Cosigner wants property

I have co-signed on a car for a friend of mine and he has not paid/or is paying late on the car note. Both of our names are on the title. He has the car. Can I take the car from him and keep it for myslef and make the payments?

Since both names are on the title, you both have the same right to possession. Whether they'll give it up to you is open to question.
