Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I am the primary borrower on a car loan with my ex-boyfriend who is listed as the coborrower. He has possession of the vehicle and is making the payments. However he is not maintaining insurance and no longer has a valid DL. He refuses to refinance as per our original agreement when we bought the car. I would like to trade the car in myself. Do I have the legal right to do so? I am listed on the title.
