Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

17 needs to leave home

I'm 17 years old, and I just need to find a way out. I want to leave home. I have a place to go and I can support myself, but there's no way my parents would give consent, and it's possible they will try to get the police involved if i leave. It's a very unstable environment, and emotionally i'm at my peaks end. There used to be physical abuse but after cps was called a couple times it stopped, but there is still emotional abuse. My father is an alcoholic and my mother is pretty much crazy. I've researched it, but i can't seem to find what i'm looking for. Are there any ways out?

When you are 17 you are not a runaway. If the police and parents are advised of your new address, you are also not a missing person. You are STILL a minor, if there are any court orders outstanding that concern you, they can still be enforced.

Good luck.

I agree with Ms. Langford. Why go to court to become emancipated from your parents when you're so close to 18. Good luck and don't be overly trusting of anyone.
