Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Common-law marriage in Texas

I lived with my ''husband'' from 2002-2006 in Texas. We called each other husband and wife and I was on his health insurance. He moved to New York for college. We recently split and I need to know whether or not I need an actual divorce. After a background check online, I found that my last name is hyphenated with his last name. How would I go about getting an actual divorce from him because he is in New York and I am in Texas? We have no children or property. I am frantic. Thanks.

Re: Common-law marriage in Texas

If less than 2 years has elapsed since you separated from your husband (or the date you last resided together under the same roof) there is jurisdiction for you to file for divorce in Texas. Contact me directly and I will explain what is required and what you need to do to move forward.
