Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Letter Agreement releasing employer from all claims or actions.

I have been terminated due to the sell of a company branch.

I have been given a letter of agreement explaining the terms and conditions of my seperation. They ask that in return for an enhanced severance benefit, I release them from any claims, and actions of every kind. It includes claims rising under Federal,State and local statutes. If I sign this and they don't provide me with the severance pay listed in the agreement, will this prevent me from legal action to get them to pay what is stated in the agreement?

The agreement should answer this issue. Be certain there is language that excepts the right to bring an action for failure to honor provisions of the agreement itself. You may want a lawyer to review this agreement. It should not take more than an hour's time to do so.
