Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

i got married in malawi,but am british.when i first went to my bank with my marriage certificate they would not accept it-does this mean that im not recognised as being married by british law?i need to know as the marriage is over and if it is recognised i want to start divorce proceeding as soon a possible.

UK law recognises a Malawi marriage and you will be considered as married in this country. if you wish to have the marriage dissolved it will therefore be necessary for you to commence divorce proceedings. If we can assist further let us know.
